This is a great question.

Basically: Game of Thrones is clearly a fantasy TV series. One would also convincingly argue that it contains way less "comedy" than it does "non-comedy" (aka drama).
So that is essentially how you would categorise your script. Through the "comedy" vs "non-comedy" delineation.

The TITAN Awards doesn't offer sub-categories in terms of genre for TV, outside of this comedy vs non-comedy split.

So a sci-fi drama pilot would compete against an action-thriller drama pilot, but the latter would not compete* against a TV pilot.

Or, in other words, THE EXPANSE would compete against JACK RYAN, but JACK RYAN would not compete against CATASTROPHE.

So if for example you've written a sci-fi TV pilot, here's how you would label it when entering the TITAN.

  • How long is the script? Sub 30 pages, or more like 60?
  • Is there more comedy or non-comedy in the script? Which aspect overpowers the other?

Based on these two answers you'd then either enter your script either in the TV Drama or TV Comedy category, but for clarity and the avoidance of doubt we do not separate pilots beyond that point, unlike in feature film.

* these projects would never compete unless they both reach the Grand Final Stage of the competition, when the three outright winners are selected.
